Nicolas Panayotou

Biography

Nicolas PANAYOTOU, a French painter of Greek origin, was born in 1973 in Thessaloniki and currently lives in Paris.

A representative of geometric abstraction, Panayotou is recognized for his innovative "gradient" technique, which is distinguished by the exploration of colors and optical movement in his unique works.

Trained at the École du Louvre in art history and holding a master's degree in plastic arts, Panayotou began his career as a teacher before devoting himself fully to his artistic passion. His creations are influenced by the Vorticist and Futurist movements, with a particular focus on color. He defines himself as a "colorist" and explores in depth the interaction between visual perception and the movement of colors, an aspect that shapes his distinctive style.

Panayotou defended a thesis on geometric abstraction at the Université Paris-Sorbonne, where he studied the links between his work and the philosophy of Jean Dewasne, a pioneer of optical art. His technique of "gradient", which creates moiré effects and the illusion of movement, has captivated renowned cultural institutions such as the Musée du Quai Branly and the Ministry of Culture.

Since 2000, Nicolas Panayotou has participated in more than fifty exhibitions in France and internationally. His works are featured in prestigious public and private collections, and he is regularly invited to world-renowned contemporary art shows and fairs.
