Chae Sung Pil

채성필

Chae Sung Pil, born in 1972 on Jindo Island, South Korea, graduated in oriental painting from Seoul National University and is currently pursuing a doctorate in plastic arts at the University of Paris.

His work explores the original forms of the universe, drawing inspiration from Taoist principles: “Heaven gives, earth receives, man accomplishes”. Using exclusively natural materials, including Korean earth and water, Chae Sung-Pil fuses a unique technique with the Taoist tradition of the Far East.

His approach is distinguished by the modernity of his compositions, sublimating colors and materials in a strong abstraction, while remaining anchored in the heritage of the great old masters. The dynamics of his works bring a great visual hold on the spectator, thus creating multiple variations in the way of admiring paintings with multiple aspects.

Regularly exhibited and invited to prestigious art fairs, his works appear in numerous public and private collections: Cernuschi Museum - Paris, Museum of Art - Seoul, YoungEun, Korea, Hôtel de Ville de Paris, BNP Paribas.
