Florence Dussuyer

Florence Dussuyer was born in 1978; she lives and works in France near Lyon. Trained in Applied Arts in Lyon and Saint-Etienne, her painted work has been presented for more than fifteen years in galleries in France and abroad, at contemporary art fairs and public institutions.

Florence Dussuyer's favorite themes come from a universe that is both very real and very dreamlike. In landscapes whose abstraction bears the touch of dreams and illusions, human and animal forms appear that are the guarantee of a certain necessary grip with reality.

Florence Dussuyer thus draws our attention to these subjects, less objects than symbols of questions that she formulates with relevance and to which she offers us, at the same time, an artistic response: “What about the place of man, particularly in the creation of the work of art? What about bodily, physical materiality and sensitive emotionality in contemporary creation and in its reception? “

Very aware of the place of images in our contemporary world - “it seems to me that the overexposed and overinvested image to saturation can make us lose the physical and profound density of reality, of nature and of oneself, of spatio-temporal reality and of the notion of the very existence of “body”” - the figurative form that Florence Dussuyer offers us is magnified by the narrative force of the series and large polyptych formats.

This universe is closely linked to Asia, which Florence Dussuyer visited many times and whose atmosphere, motifs and artistic formulas are transmitted to us with a fair personal involvement on her part. The spectator recognizes both a familiar universe and a distant territory conducive to wonder.

Florence Dussuyer's works are present in many private and also public collections. They are regularly associated with the performances that the artist realizes around her pictorial production with dance companies (Saint-Etienne, Ho Chi Minh City, ...)
